Yawng Htang Zinghtung is a photo / multimedia journalist based in Laiza, the Kachin Independence Army’s capital city.
After his village of Nam Sang Yang became the front lines of the fight between the KIO and the Burmese army, he and his family fled to the capital.
for the last 5 years he ran the media desk at the Relief Action Network For IDPs & Refugees.
Studied Kachin traditional music & history with the late Kachin cultural historian, Pungga Ja Li ( 3 years ) & the Democratic Voice Of Burma’s Multimedia Academy Journalist Training with Chiang Mai University ( 3 month ) Yawng Htang also studied with & won the top prize and his first camera from the ‘Let my voice be heard’ project.
His project ‘Again’ received 6th place at the Yangon Photo Festival for the best photo story of the year.
His photos & videos have been published by the BBC, the Guardian, DVB and have been commissioned by Oxfam, Trocaire & several local NGOs.
He is currently part of Sakse‘s mentorship program & available for assignment & projects throughout Kachin
